“Grendel, who haunted the moors, the wild/marshes, and made his home in a hell/not hell but earth” So in this quote it is talking about Grendel who "haunted the moors" the moors meaning the land and he also haunts the "wild" or "marshes" which is the same to the moor I think that bit is trying to tell you what a moor is. And Grendel made his home in a "hell/not hell but earth" so here it is saying that rater than hell or not hell he chose earth.
