A story on Gothic short story which is based around a haunted house and a boy

Answer:Cain knew evil. He lived his whole life surrounded by it, constantly bombarded with sorrow and grief ever since his older sister who took care of him mysteriously vanished. Even as a small child, he could identify the wickedness within people's hearts, which caused him never to trust the world. This, however, did not hesitate Cain from being curious even as he got older. Down a winding dirt road led to a supposedly abandoned house. Not a large foreboding structure, but menacingly odd nonetheless. The house entrance had two large worn pillars that seemed to be the only thing holding it together, interesting Cain as he had glanced at it while walking from school. As he tracked the autumn leaves through the steps leading up to the house, there seemed to be something in the corner of his eye. There was no time to acknowledge this, however, as the front door was creaking open to reveal a large and desolate living space (though it seemed there was no one living there). Cain grew ever more curious, stepping through the door frame into the home. He asked if there was someone there, only to hear his voice echo through the surprisingly vast halls. He searched around, admiring the old furniture and torn wallpaper. There were no family pictures or any sense of a family that lived there, but it did not seem someone vacated the home. Cain found an extensive library and became very shocked to see that it only contained very macabre literature. Confused, he wanders to a bathroom only seeing a long mirror and no plumbing fixtures. Cain steps into the closet-like room, hearing the door close behind him as he enters. Panicking, he shimmies the doorknob to the point of breaking it and becomes trapped. Hours pass by, seeming like days. Cain assumes it's dark outside, never keeping track because of his mourning. He finds a candle and a match in a cabinet and soon wishes he never lit it. Slowly craning his head upwards, Cain sees a long, ominous figure leering next to him in the mirror. The wick burns out.
