Why do you think that some asteroids tumble end over end through space while other asteroids rotate around their axis?

Some have a much more balanced center of gravity than others. Think about a planet. Round ones rotate around an axis just fine. But if a planet were shaped like a dog's squeaker toy, the center of gravity would be different, which would affect the rotation significantly.
