Two sides are 34 and 14.The third side can't be longer than (34 + 14) = 48, because the 34 and the 14together could not reach from one end of it to the other.  The third side also can't be shorter than 20, because the 20 and the 14 togethercould not reach from one end of the 34 to the other.So 18 doesn't work. (18 + 14) = 32 ... they couldn't cover the 34 .
