The Moho boundary separates the the Earth's mantle and Earth's crust. The Moho boundary denotes the depth (22 mi (35 km) below continents)  where seismic waves change their velocity and chemical composition. The name Moho comes from Mohorovičić, Croatian seismologist who established this boundary and discontinuity.
